St. Xavier’s College, Tezpur

St. Xavier’s College, Tezpur, Assam was started by the Ranchi Jesuit Province of the society of Jesus, a Christian Religious Order founded by St. Ignatius of Loyola in 1540. Since its foundation the Jesuit order has contributed immensely for the spreading of education throughout the world.

The Jesuit order in India has been active in the field of higher education for more than 150 years, serving the nation in the context of plurality of religions and diversity of cultures. In India the Society of Jesus has founded 118 Primary & Middle Schools, 149 High Schools, 58 University Colleges, 22 Technical Institutes and 16 Business Administration Institutes with 11,525 teachers, educating 3,34,538 students, belonging to every social class, community and linguistic group. These institutions are part of the Catholic Church’s effort to share in the country’s educational undertaking.

In order to realize the dream of  higher education this college has been established at Sonabheel, Solabasti, P.O- Bokajan( Ghoramari ) Mauja Goraimari, PS-Tezpur, Dist- Sonitpur, Assam 784105 in the year 2013. St. Xavier’s College commits itself for the promotion of justice, preservation of the integrity of creation, responsible use of information technology and mass media, fostering wholesome and simple life styles. It also promotes preservation of cultures and national integration. It aims at empowering the powerless and less privileged, women and other vulnerable sections of the society.
